Retail Stores Should Be Segregated
At orthodox Jewish weddings you will find men and women sitting on opposite sides of the aisle during the ceremony. I’ve always found this type of segregation a little odd. But after a weekend spent shopping old school brick-and-mortar style, I would like to propose a new venue where the sexes should be split in two: clothing stores.
Whether I was looking at underwear, socks, cologne, ties, belts or jeans – there was a woman in my way at every turn.
Examining. Staring. Judging. Studying.
I have nothing against the opposite sex but the reality is that the genders have different shopping tactics. Men see something they like and buy it. On occasion we’ll get as detailed as trying something on or scoping the sale rack. But in general, we keep the process simple: we like, we buy.
Woman in stores looking at men’s clothing are either a) killing time or b) trying way too hard to please their man. In either case, they are in my way; a hurdle to my inner-fashionista. And neither goal is noble, because inevitably, REAL men like to pick out their own clothing. It sure is nice to get “female approval,” but it’s even nicer to have a mind of your own – even when it comes to clothes shopping.
In most stores you will find that the women’s section is far greater in size than the men’s. That means the extra bodies, especially those toting around bags of previous purchases and little children, are not needed clogging up OUR side of the store.
I’d like to shop in peace. Ladies: Get back on your own side!
