What’s Your Poison?

radioactive-mug.jpgWe bloggers, we usually need some, umm, motivation when it comes to writing. You know—that thing that gets us started and keeps us going. And in the middle of the night, that usually means something to keep us awake.

Right now, I’m sifting through my RSS feeds while sipping on an ice-cold mug of Mountain Dew (TM, ©, R, we’re-gonna-sue-if-you-name-our-product-on-your-blog). Change is good once in a while. Usually, my poison of choice is coffee. I prefer mine black with a bit of sugar. Ideally, it would be Americano (you know, espresso with hot water), though that’s only for those times when Starbucks or Seattle’s Best is within easy reach. But since I could never convince these cafes to set up shop across the street of my place, then I usually settle for some (yuck) instant coffee, just to get by.

Now as for Mountain Dew (insert favorite trademark symbol here), I remember back in our high school chemistry class. We had a lab experiment where we tested softdrinks for lead content. And guess what! Mountain Dew topped the list. It even beat out Coke and Pepsi, which I initially thought would have more of that poisonous metal loaded inside. Who would’ve known that yellow stuff would have more lead than black stuff? Or at least that’s the color of the drinks. Of course that was high school chemistry, and you can’t really trust the scientific explorations of sixteen-year-olds.

So we go back to our question. What’s your poison? Be it coffee, carbonated drinks, martini (shaken, not stirred) or simply tea, you must have something that helps you get on-the-go and creative. It’s a part of blogging, as much as popcorn is part of watching movies at the theater or like how red wine goes really well with steak.

Blogging is not just about that part where you type in your post and hit the publish button. Blogging is also about the other things that happen with you and around you while you work on your blog entries. For me, that means another sip of lead-laden yellow carbonated water right this very moment.
