Losing Blog Steam?

stopsign.jpgNiche blogging can be a very rewarding activity, especially if you know helluva lot about the niche you’re writing on. Whether it’s technology, cooking, entertainment, automobiles, or anything—as long as you love what you’re writing about, then you probably won’t run out of things to say. But then sometimes you lose steam, and you can’t figure out what to write. This is especially bad if you don’t get much news about what you’re writing. And even if there’s a lot of new info online you can find, it’s sometimes difficult to give your personal take on things (which is important; otherwise you end up just echoing everyone else).

What to do? Well, first and foremost, it’s always good to take a good break and take stock of your accomplishments, reflecting on how you’ve developed your blog so far. Then plot the direction you want to take with your blog from that point on. This way, you can easily come up with longer-term plans for what to write. You can perhaps develop a series focused on one single topic, but this time going more in-depth. Say, instead of writing about a cellphone brand, why not do an in-depth review of a certain model. Or instead of simply writing about a recipe, why not try to cook it yourself, and write about the experiences (and whether the food turned out okay).

Another thing you can do is scan your past postings to get ideas for new articles. Perhaps you can write updates if there is new news. Surely, there are a lot of things you’ve written about in the past that have gone through developments, whether drastic or minimal.

Also, remember to keep an open mind. Being too focused on one single thing might just be too limiting. You can get ideas even from things not too closely related to your niche!

Blogging is like life. It has its ups ad downs, too. It’s up to you how to act on these!
