So Microsoft and Edelman Scored A Major Hit

Only thing needed to create a big controversy were some notebooks..
And who is the loser in all this? Apple of course. Blogs of well known Apple users have been mentionned several days already in the same sentence as Microsoft. No matter how much I disagree with Edelman, the business person in me must admit that the whole buzz created with only some emails and a very small amount of notebooks was an example strategy of efficient marketing. Was there an easier, and cheaper way, to remind everyone, Apple freaks inclusive, that Vista will hit the shelves in the next days?

What did Apple do amid all this? Nothing. Thomas Hawk thinks Apple should join the ebay auction of the notebook Laughing Squid received.

Now, want to make this story even better? Someone (Apple themselves, a Mac forum somewhere, etc.) should donate a high end MacBook Pro to this auction as well.

I also think Apple should join this auction. Not because the winner would decide what system is the best.
No, but because MS has pulled a major (probably well planned) stunt and already has a proven track of charitable activities. Someone is laughing really hard right now in Redmond, comparing the hype they created in blogland and the controversy surrounding Apple over the same period.

And as much as I hate to admit it, the will to be blogically correctly once more has been used by marketing strategists or old media. I hate to say it, but Edelman really has learned how to play with bloggers and generate a huge buzz.
Could it be that exactly this echo chamber the reason is why old media hates us?
Or is because most bloggers keep the notebook and journalists at PC World send it back to Acer/MS/AMD
