Saddam Execution Video At Social News Sites

Seeing the video of Saddam Hussein’s execution uncut (contains graphic content) I wonder where we have arrived and if the Internet (and the sites hosting this video) really needs to be censored.

Surely the internet houses many illegal activities, but most of them are rather underground.
In the case of Saddam’s hanging video there were other things to consider : the Iraqi government had decided not to broadcast the hanging because of human rights.

Two of the major social news sites (also submitted to Digg) now host the video and … don’t react.

Digg and Netscape are hosting illegal content and breach the human rights!
Even Saddam Hussein deserved human rights, although the US didn’t want to respect this and have send him to a country supporting the Death Penalty.
Oh wait… the US also supports the death penalty.

  1. So, does it make it ok to kill someone if it’s censored? Is it against human rights to kill a human or to show the killing of a human?

  2. Niko, I think my last line covers the death penalty topic. ;-)

My gripe here is with sites hosting the video, especially if there is an editorial comment agreeing with the hosting under.
I honestly can’t imagine any respected European/UK news site hosting this. But who am I?

  3. It’s true, it is hard to imagine seeing the video on a (western) news site. I haven’t watched the video and I intend to keep it that way.

  4. You mean to tell me that there are countries that don’t have the death penalty????! What kind of world are we living in to allow such non-sense. Everyone knows the only way to stop pot smoking is to execute or life imprison all the pot smokers and hippies.
