9rules, Where Has The Proud Gone?
Reading Khaled’s Best of the Net 2006 today I was surprised. A quote about 9rules struck me.
While I know it wasn’t fun for any of the 9rulers out there to see our network’s name dragged into the mud, it made for interesting reading to be included in the internet gossip pages.
So much for the once well known, sometimes snarkily spiced proud over at 9rules.
Khaled, an early and long time 9rules member, expresses perfectly the difference between a professionally run network like b5media and a fun board such as 9rules.
And I thought ScrivsTyme was gossip.
@ Network Director : Can someone please get rid of the excerpt on the main page?

i don’t know who gave you a passing grade from grade 6 english class, but the word you are looking for is “pride” not “proud”.
if being a “professionally run” company means that they fire a co-founder after having him fly around the world to hear the news, and then legally force him not to talk about it, then fuck b5media. no company should ever aspire to make the decisions they have.

Jemima , I never was in grade 6 English class. I only blog in my fourth language.
Every company surely has his problems, and makes errors, except the errors at 9rules were numerous this year (long term work discipline being a major one) .
And it is sad to see that members suffer.
It also is sad to see that leaders take pride in leaving/making funny comments on other networks. There have been many examples of this.

We never required Duncan to fly around the world to get fired… Since he was never fired and flying around the world was his “dream come true” (to go to TechCrunch 8 in NYC).
And an NDA is totally standard. Nothing sinister about it. Every legal document has it, and that Duncan is standing by his is simply a testament to his character.

Jeremy, I agree on the NDA.
But you know that it is not the disclosure policy bloggers expect.
More even, if you are totally pro disclosure, and I think b5media does a pretty good job at being open, one day strategical or legal decisions, such as an NDA, will be used against you.
If you didn’t have a blog of course this would all be accepted and be totally normal.

Franky, I understand. End of the day I don’t think anyone wants to see a Mike Arrington / Sam Sethi type situation. Everyone thinks they want to know what happened behind the scenes, but nobody really wants to.
It’s boring, internal and ultimately doesn’t help the company, the person leaving or the community.
It’s like blog porn. Everyone wants to see it, but once it’s out there you feel dirty watching it happen

So you’re saying you feel dirty watching JOAB?
I will post you some better web sweeties next time.

“So you’re saying you feel dirty watching JOAB?”
Always :p

An nda for a top secret project makes sense because you’re trying to protect intellectual property while things are still brewing and being worked on. An nda forcing a co-founder (who has always been very open) to be quiet about what happened means there is some debauchery that b5media wanted to keep to themselves. At 9rules we’ve had two partners leave of their own volition and they were completely free to say whatever they wanted because we have nothing to hide, no skeletons in the closet.
Franky, it’s funny you say how 9rules is having so many problems considering JOAB is submitted every round.
Mike Rundle said this on December 27, 2006 10:15 pm
Mike, I only started writing for JOAB some weeks ago and in the time I have been reading 9rules, your blog and Wisdump (both blogs I have mentioned in my favorite reads only some days ago) it has always been clear that I never aspired to join 9rules.
But Khaled’s remark yesterday has struck me.
And personally I prefer the exclusive 9rules I wrote about shortly after Round 4.
9rules was different, also more Loud’nProud

Sorry, I should have been clear. The only people who really want to har the internal details are competitors

JOAB was once a part of 9rules duh.

Wasn’t aware it was your policy to now reveal who was submitted and didn’t make the cut.
Funny

David and Matt, not ending on a funny note as Mike did wouldn’t be as entertaining, would it?
Franky said this on December 28, 2006 4:54 pm
“means there is some debauchery that b5media wanted to keep to themselves.”
A shameful assumption based in what? Please, Mike, share with the world the source of your wondrous and magnificent knowledge…
Sh** stirrer
