Of Course, I Want to Know What Mike Arrington is Thinking!
Over at the Blog Herald, Tony asks whether we want to know what Mike “TechCrunch” Arrington is thinking. (Okay, in a way we’re connected to but we’re not exactly affiliated with the Blog Herald, if you think that’s an issue.) And how, if I may ask, would we know what’s on Mike’s mind? Tony says we can, from reading Mike’s RSS subscriptions.
I would agree that it’s a good reference for those of us just starting out. After all, it’s good to have a feel of “what one of the most prominent bloggers are reading regularly.” However, for all we know, these RSS subscriptions may just be a stale list, and no more. For example, I know a lot of people who try to build RSS feed lists, but aren’t exactly able to read each and every one in the list.
Trust me. If you grow a feed list with thousands of blogs and websites, you’ll end up being selective with what you read. You can end up just reading a few favorites. You can go ahead and prune your list, but sometimes deleting subscriptions can be more tedious than just setting up a new list. So what to do? Just move on and simply get a new account.
So do I want to know what’s on Mr. TechCrunch’s mind? Sure. But is sifting through his RSS feeds be the way? Maybe not. Or, at least this is no surefire way. Or, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe Mr. TechCrunch actively reads all new updates on his feed list every day (or even more frequently).
Perhaps I’ll abduct him one of these days so I can pick his brains.
