Where’s the Creativity?

Some enterprising online acquaintances of mine are coming up with an utterly intelligent plan: yet another blog network. Yes, you’d probably be thinking been there, done that. But I think they’ve got it right in their primary criteria for choosing blogs and bloggers. They’re going after the good writers.

The blogosphere is getting dumber by the day. Do something about it. We have taken it upon ourselves to lead the way to slightly more intelligent blogging. We are currently sifting through this shitpool called the blogosphere hoping to find a few well written blogs.

The blogosphere is getting dumber by the day simply because there are more people that sign up for, and use, blogs. Oh, and let’s not forget to mention the multitude of splogs (that’s “spam blogs” to you) that tend to mushroom here and there, apparently scraping content and slapping on ads. So you can expect the proportion of well-written and truly interesting blogs to be shrinking and shrinking as time passes.

And let’s not forget that the blogosphere is also one big echo chamber. You know, blogs are often the he-said, she-said exchanges. No one seems to be coming up with original content these days. The blockquote tag has become the favorite among bloggers. Even some of the blogging A-listers are fond of link-blogging. Where’s the creativity here?

Intelligent blogging starts with creativity. Creativity begets originality. Originality begets interesting content.

There are dozens of blog networks out there that have blogs that simply echo what the blogs in other networks say. Having creative, original stuff would be a good start for any upcoming network that wants to make a change. That’s a big challenge to Dash-Media, and the same goes for all other blogs out there. This should also be a challenge that even established blog networks should take on. Heck, we think of this everyday at JOAB.
