Jotspot,Yahoo and the bubble just popped in Web 2.0

The Hot Jotspot annoucement was not their merger with Yahoo, or being bought out by whatever spare change Yahoo had left on the table from a drinking party with MSN.

The big news is that Jotspot now has a Wiki Affiliate Program

See its really easy. You run around the interwebs suggesting this great affiliate program to all your friends, you saturate the hell out of the wiki market until advertising is irrelevant. And we forget what wiki’s are. But first click on this damn link. Sign up for a wiki or i might say something nice about you. And tell all your friends to do it. This is the new way to sell affiliate products by the way.

This is how I get rich and you stay poor. So do it already.. In other news. TechCrunch redesigned. It looks horrible. Abso-fucking-lutely the worst redesign I’ve ever seen. This coming from a guy who knows what the hell good design is. And likes to keep designers around to talk about good design so he can write articles like this without looking like an ass.

Mike if your listening. Please you destroyed Edgeio. Now your working on destroying TechCrunch too?

Purely because this is the worst redesign I’ve seen since well that dream about Google changing their homepage to a big ugly flash portal. This actually might be worse. Rachel darling. No offense. You do great work. Why didn’t you try to talk him out of it? I question your sanity as a designer. Remember you can always say no to work.

In other news. The Web 2.0 Bubble just popped big time. The end is near. TechCrunch stats begin to falter after 69 month incline. And Iran starts Web 3.0 using the Euro Standard. Can’t you see people I’m distraught over this horrible design.

  1. Cleanup on aisle three. Somebody puked all over the TechCrunch home page.

Seriously, who the hell likes that hue of green?

Here’s the deal: I was a big fan of the old design. It was progressive and really fit the medium. Now, I look at the site, and I’m not sure what the hell is going on. The old home page had direction and purpose.

The new one? It’s just a turd. From every angle. Blah.

  2. [...] Congratulations to Mike Arrington and the Tech Crunch team on a new redesign of their site. I like it despite Dave’s cynical and unconstructive criticism of Rachel’s work which is superb. My only gripe is the lavender background but it’s really marginalized with a lot of whitespace. I’m also really proud of Rachel’s resistance to embrace the stereotypical Web 2.0 look of big fonts, modern blues and peach colors, etc. All in all a job well done and one that will allow Tech Crunch to continue to cover the emerging tech world well. 3. Personally, I like the layout. The colors could use some work but like rachel said on her blog, design is a very personal thing. Besides, read it in RSS and you don’t have to look at it.

  4. Yeah. The old design was great. This…this looks like something I would make. In other words, aweful

  6. The colors, layouts, ads, everything was exactly how Mike wanted it, and at the end of the day my job is to keep him happy.

  7. No Rachel I totally agree with you. Your a great designer. I just think Mike should have either a) stuck with his old design b) gone with something wider and slicker

His selection of colors was horrid. I hope I didn’t offend you. I only meant to offend him. hahah.

No really I have mucho kudos for your abilities. I’m not just kissing up because I saw your designs like 4 years ago and fell in love with them. How’s life in the Southern Hemisphere?

  8. Life is great thanks; about to head off to South America shortly for an overdue holiday :)

  9. Hmm…Your not the only one who thinks that layout is screwed :D… While it is pretty good, I’m not sure that it suits techcrunch the most.

But nice post. My own feelings are here. http://chronotron.wordpress.com/2006/05/13/big-buzz-techcrunchs-re-designs/

BTW, have you ever felt that the font appears too big in your comment box?

  10. Tell Jotspot to unlock the back button. That’s bad marketing if I ever saw it. Lock me up there and think I’ll sign up before I go? What’re they thinking? That went out with the 90s or earlier.

Liz Strauss said this on May 13, 2006 6:39 am

  11. Hi, Liz. I’m responsible for Jot’s website, and I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about. We don’t disable the back button anywhere. Is that what you’re seeing? If so, please tell me the URL and the browser you’re using, and we’ll fix it.

    Thanks,
    Ryan
