The National Anthem for Dummies

Jose can you see….. Ok first off I’m not sure how to respond to the debate about the National Anthem. This is the weekend so here’s my rant for the weekend that’s totally off topic of anything I ever do here. But who cares.

US President George W Bush says the national anthem should be sung in English – not Spanish – in a blunt rejection of a new Spanish-language version.

He also expressed opposition to a national work stoppage called for Monday to dramatise the importance of immigrants to the US economy.

“I’m not a supporter of boycotts,” Bush said yesterday while restating his support for a comprehensive overhaul of immigration laws.

Bush made his comments at a news conference as a Spanish-language version of “The Star Spangled Banner,” hit the airways featuring artists such as Wyclef Jean, hip-hop star Pitbull and Puerto Rican singers Carlos Ponce and Olga.

Called “Nuestro Himno” – “Our Anthem” – the Spanish version rewrites some of the English version. For instance, the second stanza says, “My people keep fighting. It’s time to break the chains.”

“I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English,” Bush said.

First off I offer my support of the work stoppage, and the right to write a song in Spanish. If we are so stuck up in our Nationalistic ways that we have to have the song in English than we are living in Nazi Germany. Of course Bush’s Grandfather the Nazi Supporter probably sat around the campfire and used all sorts of rascist diatribe so its no suprise that W is running around stating that English is our National Language, and citizens should learn English or not be citizens.

The President recently filed his beautiful taxes and recorded his income much of his money is hand me downs from his grandfather who supported Nazi Germany.

So let’s let Americans (that’s anyone on this continent) sing our fucking anthem, speak in whatever language they want, and let’s hope in a few years we can clean up the Neo-Nazi Regime’s fuckups. Need I list them all:

War in Iraq (how patriotic)

War In Afghanistan ( umm its all Al-Qaeda’s fault)

9/11 Coverup

Dick Cheney’s pissing of CIA Information

Stealing Elections

So the United States of Nazi America has murdered how many people?

Ok enough ranting. Back to our regular scheduled programming on Monday.

  1. I respectfully disagree with everything you are saying. But that is what makes America great you can have your opinion and I can have mine. I for the first time in the history of my life have to agree with the President, as much as I despise him, his politics, and I was already fully aware that his grandfathers ties to Nazi Germany. I still have to agree that changing our National Anthem is like burning our flag. You have the right to do it, but you shouldn’t. Just one persons opinion.

  2. Um, actually English is our national language.

Just out of curiosity: if being on this continent makes anyone an American, did that make the 9/11 terrorists US citizens?

Personally I think it’s retarded. I know this sounds taboo (/sarcasm), but when you JOIN another nation, it’s going to take a little bit of conformity… Perhaps, just maybe, learning to speak the language should be just one of those little things.

It should be noted, however, that once they alter it in any way it ceases to be the National Anthem (I mean jeez… it even has a title change saying so!).

  3. Got to say I disagree with you on this one, if you were to move to say France, you’d need to learn French to become a citizen, I don’t see why people wanting to live in any country wouldn’t at least attempt to learn the local language.

  6. USA doesn’t have a national language. and we never had one.

See this url for more info.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_in_the_United_States

Also you can read this url that will show only a few states have turned english as the main language. Being from TN I know the TN law is pointless as government places speak both spanish and english. Mostly for mexicans that can get Driver Liences because of the Demicrates of the state.

  8. Good points and good blog…. but I would have to disagree with you. Changing the words is just wrong and the reasoning is even worse… Why? Because people don’t want to learn our language…

I also noted you added stuff about 9/11 and other stuff? Why, what does any of this have to do about this? I have been to Iraqi and aided in the war and would do it in Afghanistan, Iran, North Koera, or any other place in the world we want to pick a fight for…. Why? I support my country even if it does makes mistakes.

I support my leaders even if it is Bush, Kerry, or some Green party. That’s why there are so many issues and splits in this country… All people want to do is point fingers and make more trouble and not try to fix things….
