Making sense of the Brandosphere
This post has absolutely nothing to do with Marlon Brando. Although it could be a good topic to post about. I want to talk about soccer for a minute. I see companies faltering all over the universe, and some getting it right. I was a former soccer player who watched team mates go on to play for the MLS. It’s rather fascinating. And I would have never thought I would be thinking about soccer this much later in my life.
I see huge opportunities for companies to be engaging the blogosphere in a good way. And they seem to pass at the opportunity daily. If I was the CEO/President of Red Bull I would have most definetly signed off on the purchase of the New York Metrostars. It just made sense. Soccer is growing in popularity with the younger crowd and will continue to do so. Soccer has a lot less egos than football, and hockey and is a good way to get their product out in front of millions of people every week.
Let’s see there are a lot of better less expensive routes for companies to reach lots of new eyes and ears. Here’s a great example. I’m going to pick the company of my choosing as I’m a nut about them. Currently there is a sale of a small blogging community going down. It’s Blog Explosion. If I were Qdoba, a small burrito franchiser I would have purchased em and rebranded the whole operation as Qdoba’s Blog Explosion. Here’s the reasoning.
1) Cross Promotional Prospects
2) Instant Buzz Marketing
3) Online Evangelism
If your a company who’s in need of building your brand. Think about buying online properties. They are generally profitable, easy to run, and can provide a nice base of new evangelists.

Qdoba can do no wrong in my book. They could buy a turd and I would sing their praises.
It REALLY makes sense for Qdoba to buy city-centric properties in markets where they currently have locations, but perhaps this is too forward-thinking at this juncture.
Maybe it will take a maverick of a salesman to go out and make it happen for the first time.

Qboda is building in downtown Minneapolis – highly urban area too that they selected.
Mmmm, now I can keep up with the two of you

Very, very, very smart idea. Too bad it’s way over the heads of most brands.
